Working Together

This is how we do it…

I design atmospheres through curated music and light for music lovers and their people so that may experience a communal energy.

My best work comes when we work as a team to create a cohesive vision for any event.

Relaxed But Detail Oriented Planning

Our creative sessions should be like a laid-back conversation among friends. Event planning is stressful enough, and I’d like to take some of that off your plate.

Total Pro

This has been a mantra since I worked as a tour manager and sound engineer in live music. I am an event professional, but really… I’m a party facilitator.

I want your day to be stress-free and smooth-flowing, without worries about the technical end of things.

My team and I show up at least two hours before your first guests are set to arrive.

Music Curation

I do need your input to guide my creative process.

However, it is my job to craft a soundtrack that ebbs and flows to ensure the mood is always right, exactly what you want to hear, and even songs you didn’t know you wanted to hear.

It’s not just as simple as throwing some lights up next to my setup and calling it a day for me.

I want you to notice the light more than the setup. I want to make sure that we highlight and accentuate architecture and decor.

When, and only when, the time is right, we’ll transition from soft and reserved light to engaging and bold to accentuate the music.

Lighting

VIBO: Our Music Home

When we work together, most of our music and event prep will be done in our app, Vibo. We’ll work out the event flow and music curation here.

You’ll get a custom invite link to download the app, which will load you directly into your event. You can search, see suggestions, and even import your playlists from Spotify and Apple Music.

Creative Process

I have honed and refined my process of creating the perfect atmosphere for any event over many years. Through my dedication to this creative process, I ensure that I can always deliver my absolute best work for every event I undertake.

This careful planning and preparation, which makes up 75% of the success factor for any event, whether a wedding, social gathering, or a lighting-only production, is completed well before I arrive at the venue.

Communicating With Me

As this is a team effort, effective communication is crucial to ensure we can collaborate and create something remarkable.

I prefer using email for day-to-day communication as it allows for organized and efficient correspondence.

When it comes to meetings, I opt for hosting them via Zoom, where I record the discussions and utilize a transcription service to accurately capture all the important details for future reference during the creative process.

 FAQs

  • Yes! I approach mixing with a nightlife-style DJing approach, but I adjust my style to be appropriate to the wedding or event I am working on.

I’ll play the classics, the newest hits, and everything in between. I am always looking for a great remix or a new and unique version that stays true to the original.

  • I respond to inquiries within 24 hours (usually less) via email. If I am available, I‘ll invite you to book a discovery call.

If we are a good fit I’ll send you a written and custom proposal with your contract and invoice attached.

Your deposit is on the creative fee and covers the work that leads up to your day. Production, travel, and the balance of the creative fee are split over 1-2 additional payments.

  • It depends… I know that is not the answer you were looking for.

My minimum is $5000 (including essential production). If you are planning a wedding in the Greater Boston Area (which represents 80% of my events), most couples will average around $6000. Events and weddings with bigger productions can reach higher.

My clients generally allocate 8-12% of their total budget to have me DJ and provide a unique atmosphere through music and light.

  • Yes! I have DJ’d and lit events in St. Louis, NYC, Las Vegas, Milwaukee, and Boca Raton, to name a few.

Travel costs are involved, but I am happy to discuss the logistics and make it happen. I have an extensive network to source production from across the country if it isn’t feasible for my team and me to drive.

  • Maybe.

I believe that lighting is essential to creating the right atmosphere for events that make a statement.

If you have hired a professional lighting company, I will defer the design and implementation to them.

If the venue already has a production-grade lighting system, I’m happy to work with that!

  • Whether requests are allowed or not… your guests are still going to make them!

Requests are just that, though—requests, not guarantees. If I think a song will work for the event, then I will play it; if I do not, I won’t.

  • Yes and no. When I have events open to the public, I’m happy to have you attend, but I cannot extend an invite to someone else’s wedding or private event.

Most of my work is in the private event space, though any public events will be listed on my personal page: https://djbriansmith.com.

  • Absolutely. I carry a 2 million dollar policy and am happy to provide a COI to your venue.
